After graduating from Parsons School of Design in New York City, Alison began her career in hotel and restaurant design before moving into residential interiors. In 2006, she launched Alison McGovern Interiors, spending the next two decades working across the NY metro area, an experience that exposed her to a wide range of styles and client needs.
Her business ebbed and flowed alongside her growing family and after her third child, she stepped back to be fully present at home. In 2020 she and her husband moved to Connecticut and after over 20 years of urban living they bought their first house. The experience reignited her passion for design, and she brought Alison McGovern Interiors back to life.
Becoming a mother changed how Alison sees design. Raising three children taught her how precious everyday moments are, and her work today centers on creating spaces built around what matters most: a family room ready for movie nights and entertaining, a kitchen built for the demands of daily life, a primary bedroom that feels like an escape.
For Alison, good design isn't about following a trend but rather helping clients discover their own style, so their space feels truly theirs. She brings warmth and a sense of humor to every project, collaborating with clients to bring their vision to life.
After years working at a mid-size firm in New York City where she could easily bounce ideas off colleagues or ask a quick opinion, Alison found it difficult to lose that camaraderie when she went out on her own.
As a natural connector, she founded the Fairfield Design Collective to bring that sense of community back, giving local interior designers a place to gather, share ideas, referrals, and challenges. At its heart, the Collective is a support system, a landing place where women who run design studios celebrate and support one another.
Alison believes every designer brings her own style and niche to the table, and that competition never has to get in the way of community. Members stay connected through regular meetups, an active group chat, and shared referrals, and often explore new showrooms and resources together.
Membership is by invitation and intentionally limited, so the group can grow stronger, not bigger. Vendors and showrooms interested in connecting with the Collective are welcome to reach out.
